Are you obsessed with marathons or a first time marathoner?  Either way, you have to try our favorite road marathon in the Ogden/Ogden Valley area, and that’s the Huntsville Marathon.

Created in 2012, the Huntsville Marathon is a race held at the beginning of autumn in and around Huntsville, Utah.  Much of the race actually takes place in the gorgeous Monte Cristo Mountains, which are absolutely stunning this time of year.  For this reason, the Huntsville Marathon is heralded as one of the most beautiful marathon events in the country.

The Huntsville Marathon actually holds six different races: a full marathon, a half marathon, a 10K, a 5K, a Kids Fun Run, and the Mayor’s Walk.

The full marathon begins in the Monte Cristo area at mile post 43 on Highway 39.  The course then follows Highway 39 westward toward the town of Huntsville.  The half marathon begins at mile post 30.  After leaving the canyon, the race then enters Huntsville, winding around the south side of town before reaching the finish line at Huntsville Park.  From start to finish, the course offers a decline in elevation of 3,500 feet, which makes this race “the fastest Marathon in Utah.”

Water and Gatorade stations, medical stations, fruit stations, portable restrooms, and other aid stations will be available at certain intervals throughout the race.

Registration for all six events of the Huntsville Marathon is still open.  If you wish to participate in any of the events, click here.

The Huntsville Marathon is a qualifying race for the Boston Marathon.  As such, this race draws spectators, visitors, and racers from all around the western United States to the Ogden Valley.  Lodging accommodations in the area, particularly in Ogden, can get quite crowded.  If you’ve searched for lodging in Ogden and haven’t had any luck, don’t worry; we’ve got you covered.

We are pleased to offer a special lodging deal just for Huntsville Marathon runners and guests.  For just $-- per room per night, you will receive a stay at a two-, three-, or four-bedroom condo at the luxurious Lakeside Resort Properties on the southern shore of Pineview Reservoir.  Your condo will come with your own private hot tub where you can relax after the race.  In addition, Lakeside Resort Properties is only minutes from Huntsville Park, where buses are located to take you to the starting line.  This is among the closest lodging to the bussing area you’ll find in Ogden or Ogden Valley.  You must book a minimum of two nights to qualify for this deal.  Other taxes and fees apply.  Contact us at 801-745-84000 or Lakeside Resort Properties at 866-745-3194 to learn more or to set a reservation.

While you’re here in Huntsville for the Huntsville Marathon, be sure to take advantage of all the other attractions and opportunities available in Ogden Valley.  For example, after running the Marathon, re-fuel at one of Ogden Valley’s fine restaurants, such as Huntsville BBQ Company in Huntsville, Carlos and Harley’s in Eden, or The Oaks in Ogden Canyon.  Pineview Reservoir is still pleasant this time of year, so before it gets too cold, hit the lake for some late-season waterskiing or wakeboarding.  In addition, the fishing is great this time of year, and the beautiful trails surrounding Ogden Valley are all open.  So, go ahead and stay a few extra days while you’re in town for the Huntsville Marathon.  You’re sure to find no shortage of things to do in Ogden Valley.

We love the Huntsville Marathon.  It takes place in a beautiful setting, the course is fast, and it’s always a great time with great people.  For more information, visit the Huntsville Marathon’s website here.
