Henefer, Utah

Henefer, Utah, is a small town in Summit County.  Though Henefer shares no border with any other community, its nearest neighbors are the even smaller towns of Croydon to the north and Echo to the south.  The area of present-day Henefer was settled by brothers William and James Hennefer and their families in 1853.  The Hennefers were sent to this area by Brigham Young, the leader of the LDS church at the time, and they named their settlement "Henneferville."  More and more settlers arrived as the years passed, and after adopting its current name, Henefer was officially incorporated in 1938. Life in Henefer is quiet and peaceful, and its residents prefer it that way.  The town is surrounded by mountains and farmland. The Weber River runs directly through the middle of town, providing it's residents with tranquil sounds and scenery as well as direct access for tubing and fishing.  There are few businesses in Henefer but it does provide residents with a few important conveniences, such as the US Post Office and a convenience store on Main Street.  Though a sleepy town by nature, Henefer residents are only a short drive to modern conveniences, just 16 minutes to Morgan, 34 minutes to South Ogden and 37 minutes to both Park City Ski Areas and Snowbasin Ski Resort.  Echo Reservoir and East Canyon Reservoir, popular boating and fishing destinations, are just minutes away.  In addition, Salt Lake City is approximately an hour's drive to the southwest.

Henefer is know for it's quiet pace of life, rural setting and fresh mountain air. It's one of those places where you can still find genuine small town hospitality and a glimpse of the Old West. The Pony Express Route runs right through Henefer, adding to the list of fun historical facts surrounding the town. The community takes pride in it's simple lifestyle and inspiring natural setting.
Though small, the Henefer community comes together for events each year, such as the 4th of July Celebration, which hosts a 5K run, bikathon, breakfast, games and entertainment. You may even see the Mayor serving treats during the festivities, showing just how close knit this community really is. There are three parks and a rodeo grounds, hosting community sports games and equestrian competitions. Being right on the Weber River, Henefer residents take advantage of the vast opportunities in the Summer months to enjoy the water, such as kayaking, boating, river rafting, fishing and tubing. Camping and Hunting area also popular activities in the area for residents and visitors alike.
