Coalville, Utah, a small city in the mountains east of the Wasatch Front, is the county seat of Summit County. Coalville shares no border with another city, but the city's nearest neighbors are Henefer to the north and Hoytsville to the south. This city was founded in 1859 by a man named William Henderson Smith. Smith's family and four other families established farms in the area and named their new settlement "Chalk Creek." Around the same time, a coal vein was discovered near the settlement, and coal mining began right away. Subsequently, Chalk Creek was renamed to Coalville.
