The area was settled by Mormon pioneers in 1847. The settlement was known as North Cottonwood for many years and eventually received the name "Farmington" because of the area's lush farmland. One of Farmington's earliest settlers, a man named Ezra T. Clark, founded the Davis County Bank and built many houses that are now featured on the National Register of Historic Places. A fun fact about Farmington: the city is the birthplace of PGA Tour Golfer Daniel Summerhays.
