Syracuse, Utah, is a city in northwestern Davis County.  Syracuse shares a border with West Point to the north, Clearfield and Layton to the east, and the Great Salt Lake to the south and west.  The area of present-day Syracuse was settled in 1878, and a man named Joseph Bodily is credited for being the first settler to establish residence in the area.  More and more settlers arrived in subsequent years to farm the fertile land in and around the settlement and to harvest and sell salt from nearby Great Salt Lake.  After adopting the name Syracuse from the city in New York State, the town was officially incorporated in 1935.

Today, approximately 24,300 residents call Syracuse home.  For the past 25 years, Syracuse has been the fastest-growing city in Davis County.  In fact, according to BestPlaces.net, Syracuse has seen a population growth of 141% just since 2000.  It can be argued that much of this growth is due to the increase in tourism brought about by the construction of a causeway to Antelope Island in the Great Salt Lake Lake in 1969.  Indeed, Syracuse is known today as "The Gateway to Antelope Island."  The commercial district in Syracuse has flourished because of this growth.  Syracuse is home to a Wal-Mart Supercenter, a movie theater, many fast-food restaurants, the Glen Eagle Golf Course, and numerous small businesses.

Despite this influx in growth, Syracuse still clings to its agricultural roots; much of the city's west end contains significant rural living.  Nonetheless, Syracuse contains mostly residential and suburban living.  According to BestPlaces.net, approximately 67% of homes in Syracuse are valued between $150,000 and $300,000, and the median home cost is $217,400.  In addition, the median home age is far below the national average.
