When Jed and Heather Nilson first spotted the 10-acre parcel perched on Pineview Reservoir, it wasn’t just the view that stopped them — it was the feeling. The kind that hits your gut before your head can catch up.

“It wasn’t rational,” Jed laughs. “It just felt like we were supposed to be here.”

What followed was more than a real estate transaction — it was the beginning of a new chapter for a growing family of seven with a vision for something bigger than square footage. This is not just a home in Ogden Valley. It’s a mountain homestead built with intention.

Creating A Family Legacy on Land — Ogden Valley's Paradise

Jed, a homebuilder by trade, and Heather, a visionary homemaker, aren’t just building a house, they’re creating a legacy.

Together with their five children — Paislee, Sloan, Reign, Xave, and newborn Avon — they’re planning a working family farm, complete with horses, chickens, gardens, and maybe even bees. Their hope is to raise their children with mud on their boots and wonder in their hearts.

“We homeschool, we don’t do screens, and we try to live a slower life,” says Heather. “This place gives our kids the kind of childhood we both remember — barefoot summers, chores that matter, and endless sky.”

A Purpose-Driven Mountain Home, Not A Monument To Extravagance

The house will replace a long-rumored property nicknamed “the Post Malone house”, and be intentionally designed to blend with the natural character of Ogden Valley — timeless, traditional, and anchored in the land.

“We want it to look like it’s been here for a hundred years and could last a hundred more,” Jed explains.

They’re partnering with the Fox Group to design the home, with Magleby Construction as their builder. The future home will span over 10,000 square feet, accommodating not just the family, but guests and a functioning homestead.

But this is no monument to extravagance.

“Beauty is in use,” says Heather. “We want it to be beautiful, yes—but also useful. A place that brings people together. A home that feeds our family. A space our kids can always come back to.”

Coming Home To Pineview Reservoir

For Jed and Heather, the move to Ogden Valley isn’t a lifestyle upgrade—it’s a homecoming. Jed grew up just over the hill in South Ogden. His memories are filled with ski days at Snowbasin and early-morning water skiing on Pineview.

“Returning here,” he says, “feels like circling back to something sacred.”

Their story isn’t about status, it’s about stewardship. About slowing down in a world that speeds up. About planting roots deep enough to weather seasons.

Breaking Ground On A Dream

As construction draws closer, the family’s dream is finally taking shape. Jed and Heather plan to tear down the existing structure by mid-summer, clearing the way for something entirely new. With architectural plans in motion, they anticipate breaking ground on their legacy home in early spring 2026. And while many in Ogden Valley will be watching with curiousity, the Nilson's are simply building the kind of place they hope their kids — and maybe even their kids’ kids — will never want to leave.

“We just feel really lucky,” Heather says. “It’s the kind of life you hope for, and somehow, we’re living it.”
