Roy, Utah, is the second most-populated city in Weber County.  Located in the southwest corner of the county, Roy shares a border with West Haven to the north, Riverdale to the east, Hooper to the west, and Davis County to the south.  The area remained mostly uninhabited until a man named William Evans Barker settled there with his family in 1873, 25 years after Ogden was settled.  The area developed gradually and was eventually incorporated in 1937.  The city officially adopted the name Roy in honor of a local schoolteacher's deceased child.  A fun fact about Roy: The first branch bank in Utah was established in Roy in 1953.

Today, over 39,000 residents call Roy home.  Residents have access to numerous amenities both within and outside city limits.  Roy offers a seasonal outdoor aquatic center with water slides, a kiddie area, and a lap pool; a year-round recreation complex with basketball courts, weight and fitness rooms, and a swimming pool; and the Roy Historical Museum.  Roy is also home to the well-reviewed Eagle Lake Golf Course and a number of shops and restaurants.  Roy residents are within are within short driving distance of many outdoor recreational attractions in northern Utah.  For instance, Ogden Valley and its three ski resorts--Snowbasin, Powder Mountain, and Wolf Mountain--is within a 40-minute drive.  For boating and fishing enthusiasts, Willard Bay State Park and Pineview Reservoir are both nearby.  Furthermore, downtown Ogden is within a ten-minute drive and Salt Lake City is 40 minutes south on I-15. Just 10 minutes away, the city of Layton is another popular area for residents to enjoy shopping, dining and entertainment. Roy offers mostly suburban and residential living. The cost of living in Roy is lower than the national average. Though known as a safe area, ideal for families and young professionals, Roy is also an affordable city to either buy or rent.
