One of our favorite things about summertime here in the Ogden and Ogden Valley areas is all the amazing firework displays that take place here during these patriotic months.  Just about every city in Weber County hosts its own fireworks display in celebration of Independence Day, Pioneer Day, or its own heritage day.  But one of the grandest, most popular fireworks displays in all of northern Utah takes place at Weber State University.  This display, known as the Lindquist Family Symphony Pops and Fireworks Concert, is one you surely don’t want to miss.

The Lindquist Family Symphony Pops and Fireworks Concert—which we’ll refer to as the Lindquist Pops Concert for short—is an annual tradition at Weber State University that is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year.  This prominent Lindquist family of Ogden created this yearly celebration in 1978, and today, the Lindquist Pops and Fireworks Concert is an event that families across all of northern Utah look forward to every summer.

This year’s Lindquist Pops and Fireworks Concert is set to take place on Sunday, July 14th.  As per tradition, this year’s celebration will feature a 60-minute concert by the New American Philharmonic Symphony.  Beginning at 9:00 pm, the Symphony will perform a number of prominent classical pieces, including Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture,” which will be complete with a “battery of 17 cannons,” according to Weber State University’s website.  The concert will be held at the Ada Lindquist Plaza on the campus of Weber State University.

Immediately following the concert, the New American Philharmonic Symphony will then provide the background music for the fireworks display, hailed as one of “the largest fireworks displays in Utah.”

All of this is completely free to the public!

In addition to the fireworks display and the performance by the New American Philharmonic Symphony, Weber State University will provide “beverage booths, first-aid stations, restroom facilities and recorded music until the concert begins.”

And, of course, you’ll also get to enjoy the company of your loving friends and family.  What could possibly be better on a mid-summer evening?

If you are indeed interested in taking your friends and family at this year’s Lindquist Pops and Fireworks Concert, we encourage you to plan well in advance and get there early.  Thousands of people flock to Weber State for this celebration every year, and this year likely won’t be any different.  Parking is available on campus, but we don’t recommend pursuing it—parking space is limited, and you’ll be waiting forever to get off campus after the show.  Instead, we recommend parking at the Dee Events Center—or anywhere else a couple blocks away—and then walking to WSU.

In addition, we also recommend heading up to Weber State on the evening of July 13th to lay down blankets or chairs to save your viewing spot.  According to event rules set forth by WSU, you may do this after 6:00 pm on the evening of the 13th

Also, while you’re in this part of Ogden for the Lindquist Pops Concert, take your family to The Pie Pizzeria, one of our favorite pizza places in Ogden.  The Pie is located just south of Weber State, so stop by on your way to the Lindquist Pops Concert and grab a pizza or two before beholding one of the most magnificent outdoor concerts and firework displays in all of Utah.
